When Detroit Red Wings player Justin Abdelkader read his children\u2019s book, \u201cShoot for the Goal,\u201d to more than 500 students at Brewer Academy, his story about dedication and hard work had even greater meaning. Abdelkader and his wife, Julie, funded the renovated space and reading program at Brewer Academy to ensure students have the resources they need to grow their language and literacy skills.<\/p>\n

Since 2018, more than 600 special needs learners ages 3-5 have received support and resources for a seamless transition into kindergarten. The Early Learners Intervention Program, supported by the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, provides Detroit\u2019s Head Start children and their families with intervention programs for kindergarten success.<\/p>\n
